 Winter activities at Purgatory Resort:

  • Skiing and snowboarding: The resort features 107 trails across 1,605 skiable acres, with options for all skill levels.
  • Inferno Mountain Coaster:  Race down the mountain on a thrilling track that twists and turns through the trees.

  • Tubing: Purgatory offers a snow tubing hill for family-friendly fun.
  • Scenic snowcat tours: Take a guided tour in a snowcat for breathtaking mountain views, complete with a warm cup of cocoa.
  • Snowshoe tours: Take a guided snowshoe tour to explore the area's natural beauty. Special "alpenglow" tours are also available.
  • Snowmobiling: Go on a guided snowmobile tour of the Hermosa Valley on the backside of the ski resort.
  • Dining and shopping: The village plaza offers a variety of restaurants and shops for dining and browsing.

    Located just across the highway from Purgatory, this center features over 20 kilometers of daily-groomed Nordic trails for skate skiing, classic skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

    Ride the historic, heated coaches for a memorable winter trip into the snowy mountains and Cascade Canyon. For the holidays, the railroad also offers magical Polar Express rides.
  • Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa

    Relax and recover your ski legs by soaking in the natural mineral waters of over 40 terraced pools. The hot springs are located just 20 minutes south of the resort.
  • Chapman Hill

    Head into downtown Durango for this seasonal ice rink and small ski hill that's great for beginners and families.

    Explore the town's charming downtown area for its art galleries, breweries, and Victorian-era architecture.

  • Beginner: Purgatory is highly regarded for its beginner-friendly terrain. The resort features dedicated learning zones, including a free 45-minute beginner experience for first-timers (with lift ticket and rental purchase). There are long, gentle green runs like Divinity and Columbine off of Chair 4, and Mercy from the summit off Chair 6.
  • Intermediate: A significant portion of the mountain is dedicated to intermediate skiers, with wide-open cruisers and picturesque views, like Paradise and Upper Hades on the front side. The backside, including Hermosa Park and Legends, offers more varied terrain with wooded sections.
  • Advanced/Expert: Purgatory provides challenging terrain for experienced skiers, particularly on the upper reaches served by Lift 8 and Lift 3. Runs like Styx and Pandemonium offer steep pitches and moguls. The resort also boasts tree skiing and glades, with McCormick's Maze being a notable dense gladed area. 

Terrain parks

Purgatory features multiple terrain parks, including a main park near Lift 1 with a halfpipe, jumps, and rails for various skill levels. Smaller parks are available near the base and backside.

  • Tree Skiing: Abundant tree skiing options with fun "alleyways" and natural features.
  • Powder: Known for consistent, dry powder from frequent storms, often followed by sunny, bluebird days.
  • Affordability: Lift tickets are often below $100, and kids 12 and under ski free with a Power Kids Pass.
  • Snowmaking: Covers key areas to ensure reliable conditions.
  • Snowcat skiing: Guided trips into the backcountry offer access to untouched terrain for advanced skiers.

The cancellation fee is a MININUM of 5% of the cost of the trip up to 150 days prior to the trip and a minimum of 10% of the cost of the trip between 150 days and departure day unless you are transferring to another Gator trip, not previously signed up for.
